OHCHS offers a School-based health center!
School-based health centers (SBHCs) provide a variety of health care services. Providing these services directly in schools allows for easy access and scheduling and saves time for students and parents/guardians. Services include:
Routine physical exams, including sports physicals
Diagnosis and treatment of illness such as: cold, sore throat, headache, rash
Treatment of minor injuries
Vision, dental and blood pressure screenings
Vaccinations (shots)
Health education, counseling and wellness promotion
Nutrition education and weight management
Prescribing of medicines as needed
Behavioral health services by referral
Referral for health care services which cannot be provided at the SBHC

Students do not need to be a patient at MaineHealth Stephens Hospital to enroll in the SBHC program. Our team will coordinate care and insurance coverage with your provider. Enrollment forms can be completed and submitted online. Printed forms may be completed and returned to the clinic, the health office, or your child's advisory teacher.

Prom and Graduation Safety Month
As prom and graduation season approaches, we want to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of promoting a safe and alcohol-free environment for our teens during these milestone events.
Why Zero Alcohol? The presence of alcohol at prom and graduation parties poses significant risks to our teens, including impaired judgment, accidents, injuries, and legal consequences. By promoting zero alcohol use, we can help protect our children and create a safer environment for everyone involved.
Providing alcohol to minors not only poses risks to teens, it is illegal! Furnishing alcohol to minors can result in a maximum sentence of up to one year in jail and up to $2,000 fine. Additionally, if someone is injured or killed as a result of the alcohol you supplied, you could be charged with a felony and/or be sued.
Tips for Promoting Zero Alcohol Use:
1. Have Open Conversations: Talk to your teen about the risks associated with underage
drinking and the importance of making responsible choices. Encourage them to have a plan for staying alcohol-free during prom and graduation season.
2. Set Clear Expectations: Make it clear to your teen that alcohol use is not acceptable, both at home and at social events. Set clear rules and consequences for violating these expectations.
3. Offer Support: Be available to listen to your teen's concerns and provide guidance and support as they navigate social situations where alcohol may be present. Help them develop strategies for saying no to peer pressure.
4. Know the Plan: If your teen is attending prom or graduation parties, make sure you know the details of their plans, including who they'll be with, where they'll be going, and how they'll be getting home safely.
5. Give them an "out" Come up with a code word or phrase they can use when with peers to get safely out of a situation
6. Lead by Example: Model responsible behavior by refraining from excessive alcohol
consumption and demonstrating healthy coping mechanisms for managing stress and social situations.
Spread the Word: Join us in promoting zero alcohol use during prom and graduation season!
Talk to other parents, share these tips with friends and family, and encourage everyone to prioritize the safety and well-being of our teens.
Together, we can ensure that prom and graduation season are memorable for all the right reasons. Thank you for your commitment to keeping our teens safe.
